Beautiful villages

Explore the charming village of Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, officially listed as one of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France. Wander its cobbled streets, enjoy lunch in the lively square and visit its remarkable monolithic underground church, one of the largest in Europe.

Nearby Brantôme, known as the “Venice of the Périgord”, is surrounded by the River Dronne and is famous for its abbey, riverside cafés and weekly market. Historic Villebois-Lavalette, with its impressive hilltop château, and the attractive town of Ribérac are also within easy reach.

Markets full of local flavour

One of the highlights of any stay is visiting the traditional French markets. Fill your basket with fresh fruit and vegetables, artisan cheeses, charcuterie, walnuts, local honey and freshly baked bread before returning to Les Bigonnies Estate for a leisurely lunch or barbecue.

The surrounding countryside is rich in history. Visit the magnificent Château de la Mercerie, described as the “French Versailles of the Charente”, explore the impressive Château de Villebois-Lavalette, or the Château de Bourdeilles with eight centuries of history.

Walking and Cycling

Quiet country lanes, woodland paths and riverside walks make this an ideal destination for walkers and cyclists. Several marked trails begin close to Champagne-et-Fontaine, taking in ancient churches, historic mills, forests and panoramic viewpoints.
